Terms of Use

Last updated: 19 August 2026

These terms govern use of the Geoplacer iOS app and this website. If you do not agree, do not use Geoplacer.

The product

Geoplacer is a general geospatial viewing and utility tool. It is a lightweight field GIS viewer for opening and checking spatial data on iPhone. It is not mobile QGIS, a GIS editing suite, or a surveying instrument.

GIS-specific disclaimer. Users remain responsible for verifying spatial data accuracy, completeness, coordinate reference system, datum / projection, and suitability for their intended use.

Geoplacer output is not guaranteed to be surveying-grade, cadastral truth, engineering certification, or legal boundary evidence. Do not rely on the app alone for property lines, construction set-out, navigation safety, emergency response, or any use where an error could cause harm, loss, or legal dispute.

Display may convert some coordinate systems to WGS84. Conversion and rendering can introduce alignment error. Always check the result against a trusted source before field use.

Not every GIS file can be imported or drawn. A file that opens in desktop GIS may still be invalid, unsupported, too large, or only partly displayed in Geoplacer. A successful import is not a warranty that the data is complete or correctly georeferenced.

Eligibility and accounts

You must be able to enter a binding agreement in your jurisdiction. The current app does not require a Geoplacer account.

Acceptable use

You may use Geoplacer only to view and organise spatial data you have the right to use. You agree not to:

Your data and licences

You retain whatever rights you already have in the files you import. You are responsible for ensuring that you may copy those files onto the device and view them in Geoplacer. Some datasets are licensed for desktop use only, or prohibit mobile redistribution; those restrictions remain yours to observe.

Intellectual property

Geoplacer, the GEOPLACER wordmark, and the app’s design are owned by the operator of Geoplacer or its licensors. These terms do not transfer ownership of the software to you. Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to App Store downloads.

[VERIFY BEFORE PRODUCTION] Confirm the legal owner of the Geoplacer name, app, and copyright notice (individual or company) before treating this page as final.

Third-party data and maps

The basemap currently uses OpenStreetMap raster tiles. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Data Commons Open Database License. You must respect OpenStreetMap licence and tile-usage requirements. Attribution is available from the map Info control and at openstreetmap.org/copyright.

MapLibre Native is used for map rendering. Bundled geospatial libraries are used on-device to read files. Those components have their own licences in the app and dependency notices.

Geoplacer does not control the accuracy of OpenStreetMap, your imported files, or any other third-party dataset.

Availability

The app, this website, and third-party map tiles may be unavailable, slow, or changed without notice. Field work in poor network conditions may show an incomplete basemap even when local layers are present.

We may stop offering Geoplacer, or a particular version of it, at any time. Apple, not Geoplacer, operates the App Store.

Website

This website is provided to introduce Geoplacer and to host App Store support, privacy, and terms URLs. It is not a hosted GIS platform and does not store your spatial files.

Warranty disclaimer

Geoplacer is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be error-free, that files will import, that coordinates will align, or that the map is suitable for any professional, legal, or safety-critical purpose.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions. In those places, the exclusion applies to the fullest extent permitted.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator of Geoplacer is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, business interruption, or cost of substitute tools, arising from use of Geoplacer or inability to use it.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, total liability for all claims relating to Geoplacer is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the three months before the claim, or fifty US dollars (US$50), whichever is greater. If the app is free, that paid amount is zero and the US$50 cap still applies where enforceable.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence where such an exclusion is forbidden.

Termination

You may stop using Geoplacer at any time by deleting the app. We may refuse or discontinue access to the website, future updates, or support if you materially breach these terms. Provisions that by their nature should survive (including the GIS disclaimer, IP, warranty, and liability terms) survive termination.

Changes

We may update these terms. The “Last updated” date will change when we do. Continued use of the app or website after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms where permitted by law. If you do not agree, stop using Geoplacer and delete the app.

Governing law

[VERIFY BEFORE PRODUCTION] Governing law, venue, and whether disputes are heard in court or another forum still require owner confirmation. Do not assume a country, state, or arbitration clause until that is filled in.
